Not on your own driveway or private lot, and there is no street option: City Code § 1022.01 says a right-of-way permit shall not be issued for dumpster placement, so every container in the City of Lansing goes on private property. East Lansing and the other towns have street permits of their own. Our permit guide has the details.

To the Granger Disposal Center of Lansing at 16500 Wood Road and on to Granger’s permitted Type II landfills; clean yard waste goes for composting. The City’s own cart programme will not take building materials, concrete or rocks, so a roll-off is the practical route.

East Lansing requires a permit from the building official or city engineer; Charlotte allows up to 90 days under a DPW permit with the sidewalk kept clear; Mason requires a right-of-way permit per project but does not say whether a dumpster counts; DeWitt, Grand Ledge and Delta Township have right-of-way permits that never mention containers; Delhi and Meridian townships (Holt, Okemos, Haslett) publish nothing, so we confirm first. No. The load must be level with the top rail so the truck can tarp it and travel legally. We will ask you to level an overfilled container before we haul it.

You pay the per-ton overage rate we quoted when you booked, nothing more. Light loads rarely get near the allowance; heavy loads are why we size concrete, dirt and shingles into smaller containers.
